History of the VITO, looked at by
The Mercedes Vito is a small van produced by Mercedes since 1996. The first generation was issued until 2003 when the current generation was introduced. The Vito was produced in a joint venture with Volkswagen resulting in the Vito sharing a platform with the Volkswagen Transporter 4. The petrol type had in fact a Volkswagen engine.
With the new generation, the Mercedes Vito became more streamlined and got a rear-wheel drive instead of the front-wheel of the first generation.
In 2008 a variant of the Vito was used for the UK market of the use as a licenced black London cab.
